OzFish Tenterfield chapter was founded by passionate anglers like Harry Davey who envisage a big future for their local native fishery. Good natural populations of Murray cod and golden perch can be found in the rivers, however they are under threat from land use practices. With a bit of effort from the community the waterways can be rehabilitated.

Mole River Tree Planting – Sunday 28th March 2017 OzFish Tenterfield Chapter members planted 120 native trees (wattles, redgum and bottle brush) at the Old Bondonga Homestead on the Mole River, 42km west of Tenterfield. The seedlings were supplied by the local nursery.

OzFish members and the property owner were very happy with the outcome, feeling they have made a difference to the structural stability of the riverbank and provided a resource of fish habitat structure for the future.

“The area has been severely damaged by farming over generations and we have the opportunity to repair a small part of that system with the view to doing much more in the future.  It only took about 3 hours to plant the trees and to think the legacy we have left there could last for generations. Also, the land owner was absolutely stoked with the outcome.” – Harry Davey OzFish Tenterfield Chapter.

Gone Fishing Day 2017

What a fantastic turnout for Gone Fishing Day at Tenterfield this year. Despite the cold, wet and windy conditions the locals showed up in their droves to participate in Australia’s favorite pastime…..FISHING!!! The day included activities such as knot tying, casting lessons, fish handling and identification. The fishing itself took place on Tenterfield Dam which was opened to the public especially for the event for one day only.

All kids attending received a free rod & reel combo, lures and a goodie bag supplied by the Australian Fishing Foundation and the DPI. Thanks for a great day Tenterfield, you rock!

Clean Up Australia Day 2018

The Tenterfield Creek was the focus of Clean Up Australia Day for our Tenterfield Chapter.  Promise of good things to come shone through as members of the latest generation showed up to clean up mess left by the grown ups. Youngster Declan King was rewarded for his marvelous efforts with a rod & reel combo. Great job buddy!

Tenterfield Fishing Clinic,  17th March 2018

Congratulations to our Tenterfield Chapter for organizing a very successful TENTERFIELD FISHING CLINIC on Saturday. Run by the Hi-Tide Radio Show crew and hosted by OzFish and the Bowls Club, the clinic was chocked full of activities including a cricket clinic delivered by Aussie cricketer Lenny Pascoe and a virtual fishing simulator. There were presentations on bait & lure fishing, knot tying, mudcrabbing, safety at sea, fish science and more. Harry Davey and Simon Fitzpatrick spoke about the great work OzFish Chapters are doing locally and across Australia. There was prizes, a raffle and plenty of giveaways. OzFish managed to raise about $700 which will go directly towards restoring local fish habitat. Well done Tenterfield, you should be proud!!
