Regional Manager / Program Manager – NSW Coastal

STATUS: Full-time – Fixed-term position for 2 years with potential for extension, subject to funding.
SALARY: $107 000 – $115 000/year pro rata depending on experience, plus Super (out of pocket expenses covered where travel etc is necessary).
LOCATION: Location within NSW – Preference for Sydney, Newcastle or North Coast region (work from home, or shared office arrangement with like-minded organisation can be arranged).

OzFish is seeking an experienced Region and Program Manager for our NSW Coastal team based in NSW. Working under the direction of the Director – Habitat Programs, you will be responsible for:

  • Setting, implementing and monitoring the strategy and targets for OzFish’s NSW Coastal team.
  • Managing a team of up to 8 people, in development and delivery of multiple OzFish projects across the region – all approvals, alignment, deliverables/reporting, communications, stakeholder relationships.
  • Project management, including budget management, analysing data and preparation of technical project reports.
  • Ensuring positive and regular engagement and activities for our volunteers, members and Chapters, aiming for each team member to be managing up to 5 Chapters each, with a minimum of 30 members in each. Ensuring the team work with Chapters in new project and idea development.
  • Managing interns and young leader projects and work programs, as necessary (up to one per staff member)
  • Setting the culture, language and tone of the NSW Coastal team and in communications and engagement across the NSW Coastal community.
  • Engaging with key stakeholders, including traditional owner groups, state government organisations, community groups, local councils, industry partners and university researchers.
  • Expect regular travel within the NSW region.

Project Manager – South East Queensland

STATUS: Full Time (5 days per week, 37.5 hours weekly), fixed term position for 12 months, extension subject to funding.
SALARY: $45-$49/hour (plus super).
LOCATION: South East Queensland (location negotiable, work from home position or shared office arrangement in like-minded organisation can be arranged).

OzFish is seeking an experienced Project Manager – South East Queensland to assist the Program Manager – South East and Central Queensland, and greater OzFish team in designing and delivering fish habitat projects with OzFish Chapters and members in South East Queensland.

The role is a work from home position, which will include regular travel around the Gold Coast, Brisbane and Sunshine Coast, and occasional travel throughout the remainder of the state. The role’s key focus is designing and delivering habitat restoration projects, engaging OzFish members and fishing community and developing new collaborations with existing and future project partners.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Ensuring successful project delivery in a diverse range of fish habitat projects in the region, including logistics, fisher engagement, budgeting, reporting, stakeholder liaison, field work and events in SEQ;
  • Designing and resourcing projects to expand OzFish’s operations, including writing project briefs, applying for funding and approaching stakeholders and project partners for support;
  • Managing and supporting up to 5 volunteer Chapters of at least 30 members each, including management and growth of existing Chapters and establishing new ones.
  • Engaging recreational fishers and the broader community in OzFish activities including promotion through community presentations, volunteer field days and science communication;
  • Utilising your scientific expertise in local project delivery in a range of fish habitat projects, including fieldwork and events within marine, estuarine and freshwater environments; and
  • Project travel within the South East Queensland region as necessary.

Team Leader – OzFish Oysterworld

STATUS: Part-Time (2 days per week, 15 hours weekly).
SALARY: $30-34/hour (plus super).
LOCATION: Oysterworld, 2 Whimbrel St, Port of Brisbane and Working From Home.

Oysterworld is located at the Port of Brisbane, and is a light industrial facility where OzFish staff and volunteers build shellfish reef restoration units to aid in restoration efforts throughout the region. We’re looking for a Team Leader to keep Oysterworld running smoothly, safely, and efficiently.

In this role, you’ll focus on keeping the site and its functions well-maintained, participant safety, running ‘working bee’ events and ensuring everyone feels supported and included. You’ll balance hands-on coordination of volunteers with administrative organisation.

You’ll receive full training in shellfish reef restoration and have plenty of opportunities to grow your skills and knowledge. With this support, you’ll be ready to guide volunteers and make a real impact on restoration activities. This is a hybrid role, and you will be on-site at Oysterworld as required, with the option to undertake administrative duties from home where appropriate.

In this role, you will require the following skills and experience:

  • Volunteer coordination: Proven ability to engage, inspire and organise diverse volunteer groups.
  • Coordination skills: Ability to supervise and guide volunteers in tasks such as machinery operation, equipment maintenance, and yard work, ensuring safety and efficiency. Experience managing a light industrial site.
  • Safety-focused: Knowledge of workplace safety and ability to train others in safe practices.
  • Administrative proficiency: Budget management, scheduling, and compliance tracking.
  • Innovative mindset: Openness to working with volunteers on creative problem-solving and new approaches.
  • Strong interpersonal skills: Ability to communicate effectively and manage relationships with diverse stakeholders.
  • Physically fit (job includes some manual handling tasks).
  • Driver’s license.

OzFish is growing and we’re on the lookout for a Senior Project Officer – Gladstone (Queensland) to support the Program Manager – South East and Central Queensland, and greater OzFish team in delivering fish habitat projects in Gladstone and the wider Central Queensland region.

The role is a working-from-home position, which will include regular travel around the Gladstone, Rockhampton, and Bundaberg regions, as well as occasional travel throughout South East Queensland. The role’s key focus is delivering habitat restoration projects, engaging fishers and developing new collaborations with existing and future project partners.

In this role, you will be responsible for:

  • Identifying and developing project opportunities across marine, freshwater and estuarine environments, including developing stakeholder concerns into projects that provide community-driven solutions.
  • Engaging recreational fishers in OzFish activities including promotion through community presentations, volunteer field days and science communication.
  • Supporting and assisting in the development of OzFish volunteer capacity in the region, including the establishment of an OzFish Gladstone chapter of volunteers.
  • Undertaking project delivery from initial conception and design to obtaining funding and identifying and working with stakeholders through to project completion.
  • Utilising your scientific expertise in local project delivery in a diverse range of fish habitat projects, including fieldwork and events within marine, estuarine and freshwater environments.
  • All aspect of project management including; main point of contact, community engagement, stakeholder management, approvals and permits, mapping, species lists, budgeting and reporting.
