OzFish to host free fishing yarns to help improve the Murrumbidgee River

Local anglers from OzFish Wagga Chapter are hosting a community fishing forum called BEERS FOR THE BIDGEE at Thirsty Crow Brewing Co next Thursday 17 March at 6.30pm.

The free community event will see local fishing and environmental experts share their knowledge on the Murrumbidgee River and the importance of repairing and improving fish habitat to enhance fishing in the region.

OzFish is calling on recreational anglers and environmentally-minded to come along to the free event and learn a thing or two about their much-loved backyard and how they can help revitalise and restore these waterways.

Braeden Lampard, OzFish Program Manager for the Murray Darling Basin, knows how important fishing is to the Wagga Wagga community, and is exciting to share his passion and knowledge with the locals.

“At OzFish we are building the next generation of river stewards and conservation-minded anglers. To start we need to share knowledge on how we can help improve local fish habitat in our backyard,” said Braeden.

“Having a platform to discuss important topics, the latest research and educate others is so important in scaling restoration initiatives.

“We know the Wagga community really care about their waterways and our aim is to make fish habitat restoration easy to understand so that more anglers can get involved with some of the cool project happening in their area,” said Braeden.

OzFish is asking the community to share these learning opportunities with friends, family, colleagues and anyone who cares about the health of our local waters. Spots are limited and registration is essential.

Light snacks and finger food will be provided on the night, with attendees encouraged to bring their mates and network with fellow anglers.

This project has been supported and funded by BCF-Boating, Camping, Fishing, the local recreational angling community and by the Australian Government under the Murray Darling Healthy Rivers Program.
