Turning the Tide on Westernport Mangroves, VIC

OzFish is working with Bass Coast Landcare Network, with funding from CoastCare Victoria, to restore the mangrove forests in Western Port Bay, Victoria. The project project aims to plant up to 2,000 individual mangroves to bridge the fragmented stands of mangroves currently at the site. The project will increase the extent of critical habitat for marine life, improve water quality, and protect this iconic coastline for generations to come.

Tasmania Seagrass Restoration Trial

Tasmania Seagrass Restoration Trial

OzFish, in partnership with the University of Tasmania’s Institute for Marine and Antarctic Studies (IMAS), has successfully delivered the first seagrass restoration trial in Tasmanian waters. The trial undertook crucial first steps towards enabling large-scale seagrass restoration in Tasmania, supporting native fish species, a healthy ecosystem, and stronger climate resilience.

Onkaparinga River, SA

OzFish has taken an innovative approach to restoring submerged habitat in the Onkaparinga River – enhancing the habitat for native fish and other wildlife. Constructed from recycled oak tree stakes and filled with bundles of eucalyptus sticks, the frustas were placed at strategic points along the river. So far, nine frustas have been installed.

Emigrant Creek Restoration 2022

Emigrant Creek Restoration 2022

Located on private land along Emigrant Creek, we are continuing the collective effort to restore the riparian zone, improve fish habitat and prevent bank erosion and turbid water, by restoring another 2km stretch of riverbank.
Emigrant Creek is a popular fishing location that is abundant in both estuarine and freshwater species. This location is important for the migration of Australian bass and their spawning success.
