Waterbug monitoring
Waterbug monitoring can give you an indicator of waterway health in a one-off assessment, and an indication of change after restoration or a sudden impact. It also lets you know what fish food you have in your waterway (hints for choosing lures, baits and flies!). There is also historical data for many waterways to compare to as a historical baseline. Turbidity is the cloudiness of water, and it is one of the fastest ways to assess waterway health. In this short demonstration, we’ll show you how to test turbidity using simple, accessible methods that reveals how much sediment or pollution is suspended in the water. High turbidity can block sunlight, reduce oxygen, and make it tough for aquatic life to survive. That’s why OzFish includes it in our core water quality checks, because if you want bigger, healthier fish, you need cleaner, clearer water.
