The Geographe chapter of OzFish is deeply invested in both the protection of freshwater mussels and the restoration of the Vasse River ecosystem. Recognizing the importance of mussels as vital filter feeders and indicators of water quality, the chapter actively participates in projects aimed at conserving and replenishing mussel populations in local waterways. Additionally, their dedication extends to the restoration of the Vasse River, a critical watercourse in the region. Through collaborative efforts with stakeholders and community members, the Geographe OzFish chapter works tirelessly to improve habitat conditions, mitigate pollution, and enhance the overall ecological health of the Vasse River, ensuring its sustainability for generations to come.

Sunraysia Chapter (Mildura)

The Chapter is organized and run by a group of enthusiastic anglers who want the best for their local waterways.

Started by the Nangiloc Fishing Club, the Chapter would not be able to run without the help of dedicated volunteers from the Nangiloc and Mildura community.

The Chapter promotes safe and sustainable fishing practices in the community as well as helping to support, maintain and develop community projects. They strongly believe in community spirit and giving back to the people who deserve it.

A group of young fishers that grew up in Geelong decided that they would like to get involved with a volunteer group that allowed them to get into the marine environment and really make a change. These guys bring their local knowledge to this chapter and they want local fishers to join their community to ensure that the health of the waterways are protected and sustainable

Richmond River Chapter

Nestled within the sixth-largest catchment in New South Wales, the Richmond River Chapter has fertile soils and plenty of fish.

The region has areas ranging from world-renowned rainforests to rich agricultural land and beautiful coastlines,

Unfortunately, it has also been impacted by significant degradation with the Richmond River being one of the most polluted rivers on the eastern coast of Australia. Find out more bout the Chapter and what they have been doing to help.

Noosa Chapter

Noosa Chapter

Noosa is inundated with crystalline waters everywhere you look, it really is a fisherman’s paradise thanks to the oceans, rivers, and lakes that make up its geography and now thanks to a group of local recreational fisher they have an Ozfish Chapter to start rolling up their sleeves to making fishing better for everyone. There is interest from Chapter members to get involved with Nature Conservancy’s efforts to restore shellfish reef beds in the Noosa River, resnagging, seagrass restoration and more.

Mackay Chapter

Mackay Chapter

This Chapter was kicked off by the fisheries ecologists from Catchment Solutions and Mackay Regional Council. Not only do these guys love their fishing and they are keen to bring in their expertise in fish habitat restoration and their networks to launch OzFish into Mackay. This region sports one of the highest recreational fishing numbers per capita and has some world-class Barramundi fishing right on its doorstep. This lethal combination of people, places and fishes means this Chapter has huge potential to do some great work and get some good fishing in while doing it.

North Queensland Chapter

North Queensland Chapter

The north Queensland OzFish Chapter was established in 2020 by a group of rec fishos looking to conserve and improve fish habitat. The chapter operates from Townsville and has a range of ongoing projects from the Herbert to the lower Burdekin. Prior to chapter formation, members of OzFish north QLD have been involved in organising tilapia fishing competitions, fish monitoring and improving connectivity in coastal wetlands. 

Tweed River Chapter

Tweed River Chapter

OzFish Tweed River Chapter was formed by recreational fishers to help protect and restore fish habitat in the Tweed Valley. The group is working on a number of projects to help improve the fishery. The Chapter focuses heavily on addressing issues that degrade habitat such as erosion, sedimentation and fish barriers. Chapter members see great potential for improvement by opening up fish passage, fixing riparian zones and providing in-stream structures.

Hastings River Chapter

The Hastings River Chapter came together through our concern and interest in being able to restore the fish habitat. Our area encompasses the Hastings River through to the Camden Haven Inlet & River and catchment. In the middle, we have the Lake Cathie Lake Innes Estuarine System where in the past was described as “the Jewel of the Hasting”. Join our Chapter now to help restore fish habitat in our waterways.

Darwin Chapter

Darwin Chapter

The OzFish Darwin Chapter is one of the newest chapters to be part of the OzFish movement. Get involved in real-life citizen science to restore fish habitat by supporting fish monitoring work with Baited Remote Underwater Video devices (BRUV) to monitor fish communities. Darwin is renowned for its Barramundi fishing but the local Chapter is also taking on the issues of wildlife entanglement and litter across the region.
