Since its establishment in 2019, this chapter has run an annual fishing competition and contributed volunteer hours to community engagement and fishing events within waterways that surround the Nyah township.
The group is full of eager volunteers who undertake environmental projects each year to benefit aquatic species, clean up rubbish and run community events.
We have made it their mission to provide local anglers with opportunities to learn all about sustainable fishing, have those conversations with their friends and empower anglers to give back to the sport we all love.
By running carp musters like this, like-minded recreational fishers have the chance to meet each other and bring about a more sustainable fishing culture to our close-knit inland communities.
In future, we would love to see the next generation of recreational fisher’s love and respect the river and create ownership of the local environment.
The OzFish Nyah is always looking for members to help them raise funds to restore past degradation because they are concerned about the long-term decline in the surrounding catchments, fish stocks and quality habitat available.
The big issues we want to tackle are as follows:
An overall improvement in our water will increase the capacity of the rivers and improve the overall health of the fish we catch.
