Fremantle Chapter

The Fremantle chapter of OzFish is dedicated to two key initiatives: Seeds for Snapper in Cockburn Sound and the Swan Reefs RUV citizen science project. With a primary focus on Seeds for Snapper, the chapter aims to replenish and enhance snapper populations by supporting seagrass restoration along the Western Australian coastline. Concurrently, their involvement in the Swan Reefs RUV citizen science project emphasises collaborative efforts to monitor and safeguard the health of the Swan River’s aquatic ecosystems. Through these initiatives, the Fremantle Chapter actively engages local communities in conservation efforts while fostering sustainable fishing practices for future generations.

Location

The Fremantle Chapter is a port city in Western Australia located at the mouth of the Swan River in the metropolitan area of Perth. Fremantle is located between temperate and semi-tropical ecosystems, which makes it a mecca for a diverse range of fish species that are residing in the fish habitat available in the region.

Country

The Fremantle Chapter acknowledges the Whadjuk Noongar people as the traditional owners of the greater Fremantle/Walyalup area and that their cultural and heritage beliefs are still important to the Nyoongar people today.

Meeting

Members catch up periodically throughout the year for informal gatherings, discussing projects and enhancements to the lake’s regions habitat. Meeting details, including dates and venues, are communicated to members via email notifications.
