Waterways Fundraising Concert A Success

As the sun dimmed and the lights came on at the wonderful music venue Lowe 302 in Darlinghurst, a great new Blues Band ‘The BluesBerries’ came to life for two fundraising concerts in February to support efforts by OzFish Unlimited to restore the nation’s waterways.

The driving force behind this effort was John McMurtrie – a keen fisher and even keener muso who thought after the first batch of COVID that musicians will need a chance to perform and how better than for a good cause.

Further lockdowns delayed but didn’t deter what ended up being a brilliant 12 piece band, formed from the successful John Field Band and including Paul Beard (Music Director for Robbie Williams no less).

They played a string of rhythm and blues classics mixed with some great originals including the hugely popular Labuschagne. Concert goers were also treated to a guest appearance by the brilliant vocalist Emma Pask.

Craig Copeland CEO of OzFish said the night was a great success – more so because of the great music, everyone was treated to. He said the funds raised would be used to support fish habitat restoration work in NSW.

“I would really like this to happen again,” he said.

“Not just for the money we can use to make a difference but to listen to live music by a great big band feels like a real thing, that we now know, we are privileged to hear”, said Craig.
