Reviving the Clyde through sharing knowledge and ideas on ways to improve the fishery

** EVENT POSTPONED ** Given the unfolding COVID-19 situation across New South Wales and considering the most recent NSW Health advice and the impacts on everyone, we have made the decision to postpone this event. We know this is a very challenging time for everyone and we appreciate your understanding and support. We will be working to finalise the details of a new event and will share more information about our plans as soon as they are available. We hope to welcome you back for a new “Reviving The Clyde” info talk in the future when advice is more favourable for large community gatherings soon.
Regards, OzFish Unlimited

Recreational fishers and other water users with an interest in the Batemans Bay region of southern NSW are invited to attend the free Revive the Clyde public information night at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club on Tuesday 29 June, hosted by recreational fishing conservation group OzFish Unlimited.

The event will see some of the leading names in fisheries research and local river management take to the stage, along with high profile fishing personalities. Attendees will hear their thoughts on some of the issues confronting the Clyde River, and learn what is currently being done and can be done to restore this major waterway and protect our native fish: salt and fresh.

The event is provided with funding from the Australian Governments Regional Land Partnerships program – Clyde River Fish Habitat Grant and supported by OzFish through their partnership with BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.

The passionate and knowledgeable speakers from South East Local Land Services, NSW DPI Fisheries, Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation, Eurobodalla Shire Council and OzFish will touch on projects currently underway that are managing riverbank erosion, plastic pollution, threatened species, fishing and fish conservation. The talks will also highlight how individual recreational fishers and the community can play their part on improving this waterway.

Fishing writer, local angler and OzFish Ambassador Steve Starlo Starling will be presenting on the night and said rec fishers have an important role in being part of the solution for the Clyde.

“The Clyde is one of the biggest and most important river systems in this part of the world,” Starlo explained. “And because of its role as a vital breeding ground and nursery area for so many species, it’s health impacts fish populations well out to sea and up and down the coast — far beyond its mouth.

“I’ve watched the Clyde change quite a bit in my lifetime,” Steve continued. “Some of those changes like the removal of netting and the creation of small sanctuary zones — have been positive, but others have had detrimental impacts. We need to do our bit to reverse those negative impacts, and I’m pleased to report that some great work is being done in this regard.”

The free community event will be held at the Batemans Bay Soldiers Club at 6pm on Tuesday 29 June. Capacity is limited so get in quick to avoid disappointment. Canapes will be provided during the evening and refreshments will be available during and after the talk to discuss the information with fellow attendees.
