OzFish Throws Support Behind Gone Fishing Day 2020
Australia’s largest fishing conservation charity OzFish Unlimited has thrown its support behind Gone Fishing Day this year on Sunday October 18.
This year Gone Fishing Day is asking every Aussie to share our love of fishing while focusing on our local waterway health. Due to current co-vid19 restrictions the outdoor events have been reinvented into a virtual fishing photo competition taking place from 6am and 6pm across Australia.
As well as backing the day with a truckload of prizes OzFish have lent their “Lets Focus On Our Waterway” campaign to Gone Fishing Day to help promote the importance of fish habitat within local waterways.
OzFish CEO and Founder Craig Copeland said the day has always been a celebration.
“Gone Fishing Day is an important day to celebrate recreational fishing. This year, through the Gone Fishing Day app you can help pinpoint some of the best local fishing spots in the country by sharing a photo or video as well as some that might need a helping hand. And while you’re doing this, you’ll go in the running to win some great prizes,” said Mr Copeland.
“We’d encourage every Australian to go fishing locally, go fishing safely and celebrate fishing this Gone Fishing Day,” Mr Copeland said.
Paul Bradshaw, Managing Director of Boating, Camping Fishing agrees.
“We don’t often highlight the social and economic value that quality recreational fishing experiences provides Australians. Fishing keeps you fit, gives you a good dose of vitamin D and fresh air, it improves concentration, mental health and self-esteem, not to mention the connection we all need with others,” said Mr Bradshaw.
For further information go to the Gone Fishing Day website www.gonefishingday.com.au and follow Gone Fishing Day on Facebook and Instagram. The Gone Fishing Day app will be available from Apple and Google Play stores from mid-September.
Gone Fishing Day is an initiative of the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation (ARFF).
