Upper Horton Planting Day – NSW

June 28, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 1:30 pm AEST

We’re putting the call out for volunteers to join us and plant 200 native trees along the Horton River.

Upper Horton Sports Club, OzFish Unlimited, BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing and Northern Slopes Landcare will be planting native plants along the riverbank of the beautiful Horton River. This is to enhance the biodiversity in the area and improve river health.

The Horton River is one of the only unregulated rivers in North West NSW. It does not suffer from cold water pollution and its habitat is vital for the native freshwater fish in the area, including platypus and rakali. It is also one of the last sites in NSW that has critically endangered Regent Honeyeaters. This habitat planting will help the whole ecosystem by providing shade, insect fall, erosion control and improved water quality.

For more information or to register as a volunteer, contact Shelley from Northern Slopes Landcare on 0474 887 982.

Please bring sturdy boots, gloves, hat, sunscreen, and water. A light lunch will be provided for those who register.

This initiative is made possible by the NSW Landcare Program, a collaboration of Local Land Services and Landcare NSW Inc. supported by the NSW Government. It is also supported by Northern Slopes Landcare, Northwest LLS, BCF – Boating Camping, Fishing and OzFish Unlimited.
