Shellfish Reef Restoration: Mega Deployment – QLD

June 1 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm AEST

a big vessel full of Robust Oyster Baskets out on the water

Join the OzFish Central Moreton Bay Chapter to help restore shellfish reefs in the bay!

In Queensland’s Moreton Bay, OzFish is actively restoring shellfish reefs, where 96% of them have been lost. This event marks the deployment of approximately 3,000 Robust Oyster Baskets (ROBs), which act as thriving hubs of biodiversity. Each basket will create habitats for thousands of invertebrates, significantly enhancing biodiversity, improving water quality, and increasing fish populations. With this deployment, Moreton Bay will now host over 10,000 ROBs, resulting in an additional 25 tons of harvestable fish!

Attendees will have the opportunity to deploy some of the ROBs that the Central Moreton Bay Chapter have been working hard to build.

The Shellfish Revolution in Moreton Bay is possible thanks to the donations and support from local businesses and community members, as well as the Port of Brisbane Authority, which has donated the use of the area where the ROBs are deployed.

Attendees are asked to wear sturdy clothes including long pants, long-sleeved shirt and sturdy shoes. Please also bring sun smart hats and a water bottle.

A sausage sizzle lunch will be provided.

Registration is essential. We hope to see you there!
