Join OzFish for a FREE family friendly fishing and clean up event!

Our natives are at risk from invasive European Carp, so it’s time to band together and remove these destructive bottom feeders from the Warrana Weir, in the Castlereagh River and surrounding wetlands!

We’re hosting a Carp Muster on Saturday 12 October at the Warrana Weir in Coonamble to remove as many as we can, helping to improve the health of our local waterways.

You can fish at the Weir, in the Castlereagh or anywhere in the region, as long as you’re back at the OzFish hub at the Warrana Weir at 2pm to weigh in your carp. It’s free to enter and there’s prizes for the biggest carp and most carp caught, with categories for kids, teens and adults.

Registration begins at 7am at the Warrana Weir OzFish hub, but in the meantime, you can catch all the competition rules via the link below. While we’re removing carp from the river, this is a catch and release event for natives! All native fish must be returned to the water.

This event is also a Yabby Trap Drop Spot! Bring along any old and unwanted opera house yabby traps and get an Oar-Gee Plow lure. Opera house nets are illegal in NSW and those collected will be recycled into useful products for anglers, with the proceeds being used to support habitat restoration.

Registration is essential. We hope to see you there!
