NEWSTREAMS is back: Keep up to date with the latest in fish habitat news

If you like to keep up to date with the latest news and research outcomes about fish habitat from both at home and abroad, NEWSTREAMS is perfect for you.

The latest edition of this free online quarterly newsletter is out now.  The revamped NEWSTREAMS continues to deliver insightful and engaging content about the world of fish habitats.

NEWSTREAMS, which is supported by funds from the NSW Recreational Fishing Trusts, raised from the NSW Recreational Fishing Licence fee, is the longest-running newsletter of its kind in Australia.

It started way back in 2006 and the latest edition is the 80th that has been delivered to our environmentally conscious readership.

A wide range of issues can be found in this edition.  The Australian News section of NEWSTREAMS contains several fascinating insights, including:

  • A feature on the mission to help the endangered Macquarie perch fight back from the brink of extinction,
  • The latest on long-term monitoring of the Great Barrier Reef,
  • The rescue mission which breathed new life into the Murray River after last summer’s devastating floods, and
  • A video report on a new approach to saving the eastern freshwater cod.

In the International News, the newsletter takes a deep dive into:

  • How biodegradable tackle can reduce the cost of ‘ghost fishing’,
  • The United Nations reporting an alarming worldwide decline in mangrove areas,
  • Why climate change is set to result in the substantial loss of suitable habitat for fish predators like sharks, and
  • The amazing journey of European eels as they migrate across the Atlantic Ocean to the Sargasso Sea.

NEWSTREAMS is published electronically every three months by OzFish Unlimited on behalf of the NSW Department of Primary Industries – Fisheries. If there are specific topics or areas of fish habitat you’d like us to cover more extensively, feel free to email your suggestions to newstreams@ozfish.org.au.
