OzFish throws support behind Gone Fishing Day Sunday Oct 20
OzFish Unlimited throws support behind Gone Fishing Day on Sunday, October 20 as Australians young and old are encouraged to get outside and enjoy one of our favourite pastimes – fishing.
The day is an initiative of the Australian Recreational Fishing Foundation created to encourage people to celebrate fishing.
OzFish Founder and Chief Executive Officer Craig Copeland is championing the initiative and encouraging communities to think about the future of fishing while they participate.
“This is a great opportunity to celebrate fishing but equally to reflect on how we can contribute to ensure fishing remains our favourite pastime for future generations,” Mr Copeland said.
“It could be volunteering your time to restoring fish habitat, collecting litter around your favourite fishing spot or ensuring you take away only what you need and release what you don’t.”
There will be plenty of events happening across the country including many run by OzFish.
These include fishing workshops, casting competitions, free giveaways, demonstrations and kids activities.
“It’s great to see our OzFish Chapters who have jumped at the chance to run local Gone Fishing Day events in their communities,” Mr Copeland said.
“It doesn’t matter if you fish once a week, once a year or never before, Gone Fishing Day is the perfect day to wet a line and be involved.”
All Australians, no matter what age or skill level are encouraged to disconnect their devices, get outdoors and celebrate Gone Fishing Day.
An angling licence will not be required to fish in some states for the day and participants are advised to check with your local authorities for further details.
