Dubbo Fish Motel Building Workshop – NSW

October 19, 2023 @ 5:45 pm - 7:00 pm AEDT

Join OzFish for an evening of fish motel building that will help future resnagging projects.

OzFish’s experienced staff will soon be installing specific fish motels into Dubbo waterways. River de-snagging was a popular activity to increase boating safety and reduce flooding. Today, removing wood from waterways is listed as a Threatening Process under the Fisheries Management Act.

Unfortunately, before this legislation came into place, river de-snagging had already led to significant declines throughout the Murray Darling Basin.

Fish hotels are an innovatively designed wooden construction, resembling a hashtag (#). They consist of criss-crossed wooden beams placed to create a complex system of habitat that sits on the riverbed. Made from natural materials, they are environmentally friendly and a perfect location for native fish to inhabit.

Everyone is welcome, and we will provide dinner, drinks, and all the required materials and PPE.

Come and learn all about Australia’s amazing freshwater fish and how to build a fish motel!

Registration is essential. We hope to see you there.
