Home / Riparian Planting and Management

Sunraysia OzFish members worked collaboratively with Parks Victoria, Mallee Catchment Management Authority and traditional owners planting 600 native plants along a stretch of Butlers Creek.

It is well known by local fishers that native vegetation along creek banks is a direct source of food for native fish, with up to 60% of some species diet consisting of terrestrial insects that live off plants close to water.

The native vegetation will assist with restoring the fringing vegetation, create habitat for a range of animals (including fish) and also improve the water quality of Butlers Creek by balancing oxygen, nutrients and sediments.

This project would not be possible without the support of local community partnerships and our corporate partner BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.
