Woody habitat
to be installed
The Murray River travels over 2,500 km through three states, making it the longest River in Australia. The Murray River is an important system, supplying water to key agricultural areas and towns and supporting native flora and fauna.
New habitat
OzFish will be installing 20 large logs and rocky structures to enhance fish habitat. The woody structures have been chosen with forks and roots to create complex habitats to support aquatic species while the rocky structures will be large and heavy to create extra weight.
Saving native fish
This project will improve habitat and conditions for a majority of our Murray-Darling Basin recreational targeted large-bodied native fish species, such as Murray Cod and Golden Perch. It will also take place in sections of the Murray River where threatened species are listed and can be found, including Freshwater Catfish, Trout Cod and Silver Perch.
Community engagement
OzFish have also delivered community ‘fish focus’ forums in the region. These events have provided local community members with the inspiration, knowledge, and support to get directly involved in habitat restoration.
The project is part of OzFish’s Driving Fish Habitat Action partnership with Landcare NSW with funding support from NSW Local Land Services, the Australian Government through the CRC Program and BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.
