Shellfish Revolution in the Richmond River – NSW
December 3, 2023 @ 10:30 am - 1:30 pm AEDT
The OzFish Shellfish Revolution is heading to the Richmond River and we’re inviting all Chapters throughout NSW to get onboard!
This shared learning event will provide an opportunity for NSW Chapter members to come together, hear from those who have spearheaded the largest community driven shellfish restoration project in Australia, and be provided with support and capacity building resources. The fun part? You’ll be involved with building the famous ROBs (Robust Oyster Basket).
We want to see community driven oyster restoration happen in every degraded estuary and your local could be next. The first step is learning why restoration efforts are essential, the key role that recreational anglers play in assisting with such a project, and the design and creation of ROBs.
Senior Special Projects Officer – Shellfish Revolution, Robbie Porter, will be traveling from Central Moreton Bay with fellow Chapter members who dedicate their time and knowledge to restoring critically important shellfish reefs through the Moreton Bay region and surrounds. Take a look at what the army of volunteers have achieved in recent years: https://ozfish.org.au/projects/moreton-bay-shellfish-reef-restoration/
Location: Ballina Angling Club
Note: On the banks of Fishery Creek. This can only be accessed travelling into Ballina from the west on Tamarind Drive.
Lunch will be provided at approx. 1:00pm for registered attendees. This event has limited numbers, so get in fast!
Registration is essential. We hope to see you there.
This project is funded by the NSW Recreational Fishing Trusts, building capacity, knowledge and support for recreational fishers in NSW and is supported by BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.
