School House Creek Planting Day
May 29, 2021 @ 9:00 am - 1:00 pm AEST
On Saturday the 29th of May, OzFishers are getting together to replant riparian vegetation in order to stabilise the banks of the School House Creek.
Following the recent floods, areas of the creek have experienced major erosion, so we are heading out to a private property to build on the existing habitat corridor and support the landowner who has been restoring their property for over 30 years!
On the day we will have Adrian, an experienced ecologist, do a guided ecology walk around so you can see the diversity of the place and wildlife, and the owner will discuss the history of the property.
We will then plant at a few different zones, do a little bush regeneration tackling the common weeds we worked on upstream and finish with a lovely lunch in the shade along the creek.
You will get to see major erosion further down that will need mechanical solutions. This is what we hope to prevent.
This event is catered, please let us know if you have dietary requirements.
No skills required, onsite training and tools provided. Please wear sun safe clothing, such as a long shirt, long pants, enclosed shoes and a hat. If you have a pair of favourite gardening gloves, bring them along as well.

More about School House Creek:
School House Creek is connected to the Nepean River and is downstream from Glenmore Loch, with the River Flat Eucalypt Forest adjacent to the creek playing an important role for filtering urban runoff and reducing erosion, and sedimentation of the watercourse. The new shrubs and tress we plant will increase invertebrate numbers that provide food for native fish in the waterway while also providing shade and bank stabilisation.
