Saltwater Creek Clean Up – QLD

September 18, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 11:00 am AEST

OzFish Unlimited Gold Coast Chapter is conducting a Clean-Up at Saltwater Creek!

Bring your kayaks for an on-water clean-up targeting floating debris in the mangroves. If you’re keen to join but don’t have a kayak, there is loads to do from shore as well! This is a family event so big and little kids are all welcome. Previous kayak experience is preferred but not required. Please wear enclosed footwear that can get wet and appropriate sun protection.

Saltwater Creek is an estuary approximately 17km in length, stretching from the Nerang State Forest to the Coomera River and flowing into the Moreton Bay Marine Park. Saltwater Creek is an important recreational fishing area for Gold Coast locals where flathead, bream and mangrove jack flourish. This shallow water system is facing several critical threats impacting the water quality and fish habitat. These threats include illegal dumping, runoff from the M1 Highway, stormwater debris and fish barriers.
