Ripples of Change Project – Final Get Together & Celebration

Join us at Taree Rowing Club, as we celebrate the first series of “Ripples of Change; kayaking paddles to support mental health through social connection and environmental stewardship.”
Manning Valley Kayaking and OzFish Unlimited invite all participants and supporters of the project to join us on Thursday November 7 at Taree Rowing Club, as we celebrate our successes and work together to build opportunities and stronger connections for mental health support and environmental stewardship in the Manning Valley.
Throughout August, September, and October OzFish and Manning Valley Kayaking have invited local women to join us for a morning on the beautiful Khappinghat Creek, at Saltwater National Park. Our focus was to build stronger connections in the community and form a comprehensive dataset with the help of our participants of where habitat degradation had occurred; erosion, fire/flood damage, habitat types present, habitat complexity, channel shading, site threats etc.
The data we collected will assist the community in further understanding the significance of healthy aquatic habitats; saltmarsh, mangroves, seagrass and riparian (riverbank areas) and may assist with future restoration throughout the Manning Valley. Unsuprisingly, Khappinghat Creek was in pristine condition! Not a lot of data collected from degraded sites, however a fantastic opportunity to showcase ideal habitat conditions.
OzFish and Manning Valley Kayaking are keen to explore new areas of the Manning catchment and continue habitat mapping our local estuaries for future mens and womens paddles. We would be grateful for private landholders along the Manning River and surrounds who would be willing to support our project and allow us access for entry and exit to the river
