Port River R.O.B. Building Working Bee – Session Two

November 15, 2022 @ 9:00 am - 12:30 pm ACDT

Two women holding a Robust Oyster Basket

We Need Volunteers To Help Us Build And Fill Robust Oyster Baskets To Restore The Lost Shellfish Reefs in the Port River.

Before the settlement of the City of Adelaide in 1836, the Port River and Barker Inlet Estuary was home to numerous shellfish reefs according to both colonial records and indigenous records. Now the once plentiful native flat oyster, Ostrea angasi, is found only occasionally in the Port River. This project will build on successful trials by the Estuary Care Foundation to restore native flat oyster to the Port River and Barker Inlet Estuary’.

We will be assembling Robust Oyster Baskets (ROB’s) and filling with clean oyster shells ready for deployment in the Port River.

Please remember to wear sun-smart clothing, sunscreen and a hat. If you have gloves, please bring them and don’t forget to bring plenty of drinking water and perhaps a snack.

Please be aware there are no toilets on site.

Registration is essential. We hope to see you there!

This project is supported by Estuary Care Foundation, Environment protection authority (EPA), Department of Environment and Heritage, Renewal SA, Primary Industries and Regions South Australia (PIRSA) and Flinders Port Holdings.
