Mourilyan Harbour Seagrass Collection and Planting – Round 2 – QLD
September 5, 2023 @ 9:30 am - September 9, 2023 @ 4:30 pm AEST
OzFish Cairns are excited to announce our fourth consecutive year of seagrass restoration trials at Mourilyan Harbour.
We’re continuing our work to restore seagrass meadows, following over a decade of seagrass loss in the estuary. Seagrass will be collected by the TropWATER (JCU) Seagrass Ecology team in Trinity Inlet (Cairns), and then transported to JCU’s Smithfield campus for processing, sorting and preparation for planting. Seagrass planting will occur at Trinity Inlet (Cairns) and Mourilyan Harbour, south of Innisfail. Volunteers are needed to assist with seagrass sorting and preparation at JCU’s Smithfield campus, and to assist with preparation of transplants at Cairns Yacht club and the Mourilyan Harbour boat ramp.
