Members Exclusive: Karumba Clean-up Trip
July 30 @ 9:00 am - August 5 @ 3:30 pm AEST
OzFish is offering an amazing chance for 6 members to join a week-long fishing and litter collection travel experience in Northern QLD.
This unforgettable journey kicks off in Cairns on Tuesday, July 30th. We’ll then travel west by bus, spending the night halfway at Mount Surprise Discovery Parks. In the afternoon, we’ll explore the beautiful Elizabeth Creek for swimming and fishing, followed by a campfire dinner.
The following morning, we’ll head to Karumba. Upon checking into Karumba Sunset Caravan Park, you’ll have a chance to enjoy beach fishing at Karumba Point, followed by a relaxing sundowner and dinner at Sunset Tavern. Over the next two days, we’ll be aboard Kerry D Fishing Charters, working to locate and remove marine litter from the estuaries. This cleanup effort helps protect the estuary and marine life from pollution. As a reward for your efforts, you’ll have plenty of opportunities to fish in some of Australia’s finest fishing waters!
On our last day in Karumba, we’ll focus on dismantling and sorting the litter we’ve gathered to ensure proper recycling through OzFish’s Tackle Loop recycling program. Early Sunday morning, we’ll depart and spend the night in Undara Volcanic National Park. There, we’ll enjoy a sunset wildlife tour and lava tube experience. We expect to arrive back in Cairns around 3pm on Monday, so please plan accordingly if you have a flight scheduled for that day.
The trip covers the expenses for accommodation, activities, and meals throughout the journey. However, travel expenses to and from Cairns from your home location are not included.
Joining you on this trip, besides five other OzFish members, are OzFish staff Robbie Porter and Lucas Kas, alongside Jessica Leck, OceanEarth Foundation Program Coordinator for GhostNets Australia.
Members’ exclusive experiences are about embedding OzFish culture, connecting with other passionate anglers and learning about fish habitat restoration, empowering you to make a positive change in your local waterway.
If you are an active OzFish member and are interested in attending this Members Exclusive, please fill out the expression of interest at the link below. The EOI closes the 7th of June. We will be in contact with the successful applicants shortly.
This event is a part of the Great Aussie Cab Pot Review, an initiative by OceanEarth Foundation, in partnership with OzFish Unlimited. This Ghost Nets Innovative Solutions project received grant funding from the Australian Government. It is also supported by BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.
