Know Your Estuary – Seagrass in the Manning River
October 16 @ 5:45 pm - 8:30 pm AEDT
Seagrass habitats are biodiversity hotspots in our local estuaries and are an essential part of supporting fish throughout different stages of their life cycle.
Fish, prawns, and other aquatic species depend on seagrass as breeding and nursery grounds, a dominant food source, shelter from predators, and do an incredible job at stabilising estuary bottoms and filtering excess nutrients in our waterways.
Seagrass loss in the Manning Estuary has been a hot topic over the years, with local fishos and the community raising the question of why we have lost such large amounts of seagrass. Fishos have noticed reduced fish numbers in areas where seagrass used to occur but has since disappeared.
We’re inviting the community to join us at Taree University Campus on 16 October at 5:45 pm as we learn from seagrass expert Tim Glasby about his experience researching and monitoring seagrass in local estuaries and explore the ideas of future mitigation and restoration actions.
Please arrive at 5:45pm for 6:00pm start. Catering will be provided.
Registration is essential!
