Herbert River Fish Surveys

June 9, 2021 @ 8:30 am - 4:00 pm AEST

OzFish will be undertaking fish surveys in the lower Herbert River. Information collected during these surveys will be used to inform future habitat improvement initiatives and will complement work being undertaken by other researchers and NRM groups in the region.

The surveys will take place in Herbert River to the north of the town of Ingham, and in Tyto wetlands. Surveys will be undertaken using boat electrofishing and underwater video and will be conducted in collaboration with Tropical River Consulting.

The project team will meet at 08:30 am at the Tyto wetlands complex before proceeding to the survey locations. All surveys will be completed by 4:00 pm.

Recreational fishers and the broader community are welcome to attend and to learn more about the fish fauna in rivers and wetlands of the lower Herbert River.

The project is a joint partnership between OzFish Unlimited North QLD Chapter and Hinchinbrook Local Marine Advisory Committee and is funded by a grant from the Great Barrier Reef Foundation.
