Postponed – Gone Fishing Day – Tilapia Busters in the Tweed – Bogangar canal
March 20, 2022 @ 8:30 am - 12:30 pm AEDT
Join us as we remove invasive tilapia from Cudgen Lake to celebrate Gone Fishing Day
Gone fishing day is an annual event to celebrate our passion for fishing, and bringing together Australian communities.
Backed off the beautiful beaches of Cabarita lies Bogangar canal, part of Cudgen Lake nature reserve, a freshwater lake teeming with fish to target.
OzFish Unlimited is partnering with Tweed Shire Council to educate the community and raise awareness of Tilapia’s destructive effect on the environment. Tilapia is listed as a pest under NSW legislation due to its excessive repopulation methods.
You don’t need to be an expert angler to get involved; we”ll be on hand to provide tips and advice to ensure you get amongst them!
There will be a heap of activities for the whole family:
- Fishing tips and techniques
- How to fish on a kayak
- Guest speakers raising awareness of tilapia & other local issues
- All fish caught will assist council & DPI for collecting data
Numbers are limited, so register early so you don’t miss out!
This project is supported and funded by the Tweed Shire Council, Recreational Fishing Trusts, NSW DPI and BCF.
