Barwon River Tree Planting, Belmont VIC

June 19, 2022 @ 11:00 am - 1:00 pm AEST

OzFish and the Corangamite Catchment Management Authority have been busy installing over 600 tonnes of logs and rootballs into the Barwon River to create large woody habitat to help our native fish. Previously, the Barwon had only about one-tenth of the woody habitat found in the average Victorian River.

Now is your chance to give the Barwon River a helping hand by attending our tree planting day, Sunday 19 June from 11am-1pm. Weeds have been removed from the riverbank, and now over 2,000 native trees are waiting to be planted. These trees will stabilise the riverbank, filter runoff, regulate water temperature, and eventually become instream woody habitat. Please bring drinking water, a hat, enclosed shoes, sun-safe clothing and gardening gloves. A BBQ lunch will be provided. Registration is essential.

During this time, large logs and rootballs will be placed into the River via an excavator and barge. Throughout the demonstration, our habitat experts will explain how this upcycled timber will become prime fish habitat.

Our previous site has been flooded, and therefore this event will now take place at the Barwon River Carpark, 122 Breakwater Rd, Belmont VIC 3216 (off Gundog Lane).
