OzFish unlimited will be working to improve a 2km stretch of the Murray River upstream from Euston by installing 20 large logs and rocky structures to enhance fish habitat. The restoration activities are designed to help restore the Murray River habitat and create better fishing in one of Australia’s largest freshwater rivers for today and for future generations.
The project installed 20 large habitats and rock reefs along a 1km stretch of river upstream of Wentworth township.
The reinstatement of the structures provided valuable fish habitat, breeding grounds, and additional food sources for aquatic species in the region.
OzFish has received funding to deliver restoration activities that will create critically needed complex habitat to support Murray hardyhead populations. Bringing communities together across the region to help with those efforts is key to the project’s success.
Sunraysia OzFish and key stakeholders utilised their collective expertise and equipment to map all woody habitats that are located within two vital off-stream waterways, Frenchman’s creek and Rufus River, which are tributaries to the Murray River.
The Sunraysia region is set to receive significant support over the coming years with the setup of a locally based OzFish River Repair Bus.
The OzFish River Repair Bus concept has been tried and tested and is a truly unique, successful initiative developed by one of OzFish Unlimited Chapters – Inland Waterways based in Dubbo.
Tackle Loop is OzFish’s solution to provide a home for recreational fishers’ old, unwanted, and broken gear. Working with our partners, we will take in old and discarded gear before ensuring it is recycled instead of polluting Australia’s waterways or ending up in landfill.
Sunraysia OzFish volunteer’s have been restoring Kings Billabong an iconic site for our local recreational fishers situated close to Mildura, Victoria.
OzFish volunteers have spent hours undertaking a native fish habitat restoration project so our native fish can thrive in the area.
