Holiday Break Fishing Day

Holiday Break Fishing Day

The Winter Break Holiday Program and OzFish Unlimited created an opportunity for the community through running the catch a carp days in Moree and Copeton Dam to remove pest species, collect illegally dumped rubbish and learn more about their local waterways. Over both events 118 recreational fishers participated in both events with a diverse demographic of people from first time recreational fishers to seasoned fishing anglers with most participants from first nations groups across the two events.

OzFish alongside Northern Slopes Landcare, Traditional Owners, recreational fishers and Moree Urban Landcare worked to rehabilitate Moree’s fish habitats on the Gwydir River. Using the River Repair Bus program based at Moree, OzFish led restoration works across three sites surrounding the community of Moree and the Gwydir River.

OzFish has completed the restoration of 3.5 hectares of river frontage – establishing healthy habitat to support native fish, as well as the critically endangered Regent Honeyeater.

The project is part of OzFish’s Driving Fish Habitat Action partnership with Landcare NSW, with funding support from Recreational Fishing Trusts, Northwest Local Land Services and BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.

Moree River Repair Bus

Moree River Repair Bus

Fish habitat in the Gywdir, Mehi and surrounding waterways will have the support of an OzFish River Repair Bus based in Moree. The River Repair Buses are a truly unique initiative that will undertake weekly activities together with volunteers, landholders, Landcarers and traditional owners to collect rubbish, undertake weed removal, revegetate waterways, and improve instream habitat across the region.

Tackle Loop

Tackle Loop

Tackle Loop is OzFish’s solution to provide a home for recreational fishers’ old, unwanted, and broken gear. Working with our partners, we will take in old and discarded gear before ensuring it is recycled instead of polluting Australia’s waterways or ending up in landfill.
