Inland Waterways is a proud chapter of Ozfish Unlimited. We started out from very humble beginnings when some like-minded fishers got together in 2008, with a goal of improving river health and fish stocks. Starting with a small raffle, and then moving onto running the Easter Lake Burrendong Fishing Classic, the group now takes on major habitat restoration work including re-snagging, riparian re vegetation, and also runs a work for the dole River Repair Bus project.

The Lake Burrendong Classic attracts thousands of anglers annually, who turn up in droves for a chance to share in a community driven prize pool of thousands of dollars in cash and prizes. This event, run by volunteers since the inaugural comp kicked off in 2010, has generated hundreds of thousands of dollars which has been put towards improving recreational fishing opportunities in central western NSW. 100% of proceeds go into making our inland waterways  healthier, better places to fish! River Repair Bus. OzFish Inland Waterways Chapter contributes towards the operation of the River Repair Bus in Dubbo. Thanks to the IWRA (Inland Waterways Rejuvenation Association) the bus is currently being utilized as part of the work for the dole program. The bus is used to transport participants and tools to and from the river bank when undertaking aquatic habitat restoration activities such as riparian plantings. The bus is currently operating under its second, 6 month contract.

Riparian Planting. OzFish Inland Waterways Chapter and the IWRA have undertaken a number of river bank plantings around the Dubbo area to improve habitat for native fish.

August 2017 “ When they’re on the nest, give them a rest” campaign

The television campaign was aimed at reducing anglers fishing for Murray Cod in the closed season for breeding. The $15,000 project aired during prime time TV.

Clean Up Australia Day 2018

IWRA Chapter focused their efforts at Devils Elbow on the Macquarie River. The amount of rubbish the team removed on the day was minimal, thanks to the chapters ongoing campaign to reduce illegal dumping of rubbish. After the hard work the boys treated themselves to a well deserved ‘flick session’ and managed to land 10 cod and 8 ‘yellas’.
