You’ve just submitted the
Trees for Fish Challenge!
Let’s learn some cool facts about my friend
– the Australian Bass Macquaria novemaculeata
Aussie bass live upstream in freshwater, using fallen trees and other debris for shelter and to find food – that’s pretty clever!1 They are carnivorous, meaning they like to eat other animals, including insects, shrimp, worms, and smaller fish.2 When they are ready to breed, they swim down to estuaries, which is where freshwater meets the salty sea water.3 Sounds like they do a lot of swimming!
Keep an eye out on our upcoming events to find a planting project in your area – you could even organise your own! Head to our Trees for Fish project page to get some inspiration.
