You’ve just submitted the
Catch and Release challenge!

Let’s learn some cool facts about my friend
– Murray cod Maccullochella peelii

The Murray cod has a big appetite, snacking on fish, water birds, crustaceans, frogs, turtles and some smaller land animals.1 They are a predator that sit and wait, staying close to rocks and fallen trees to sneak up on their food.2 You can probably imagine that because they eat so much, they also grow big in size, reaching a maximum size of 1.8m and 113kg – that’s heavier than a new born elephant!3

It’s important that we don’t remove too many fish from our waterways so that they can continue to grow and breed. We can still enjoy fishing by learning how to catch and release.
