Fishy Do’s
- Rig up your rods beforehand to maximise your fishing time
- Release fish to ensure future fishing for all
- Leave the fishing spot cleaner than you found it – take your rubbish with you
- Dispose of fishing line in an OzFish designated Tangle Bin when possible
- Learn to tie good knots so you don’t lose your gear
- Be croc-wise near the water’s edge
- Pair up with a buddy who fishes safely and responsibly
- Be aware of your surroundings when casting your line – look up and all around
- Carry a reusable water bottle and stay hydrated
- Protect yourself by being sun-smart
- Check and monitor conditions throughout the day
- Know your local size limits and species
- Wet your hands and support the belly of your fish when handling it
- Have your camera ready before lifting your fish from the water
- Check local waterway and fishing regulations before you leave

- Use the NT Fishing & Boating App for information
- Don’t hold a big fish by the mouth
- Don’t use treble hooks at jetties
- Don’t release uncertain catches
- Don’t use live bait
- Don’t rest fish on hot surfaces
- Don’t litter
