Tilapia Busters – Cudgen Lake
November 23 @ 6:30 am - 11:30 am AEST
Join us as we remove invasive tilapia from Cudgen Lake!
OzFish Unlimited is partnering with Tweed Shire Council to educate the community and raise awareness of Tilapia’s destructive effect on our local waterways. Tilapia is listed as a pest under NSW legislation due to its excessive repopulation methods and are putting our natives at risk.
We’re hosting a Tilapia Buster on Saturday 23rd of November at the Bogangar canal, part of Cudgen Lake nature reserve, to catch and remove as many as we can. You don’t need to be an expert angler to get involved; we’ll be on hand to provide tips and advice to ensure you get amongst them. You can fish from land, or if you’ve got your own kayak and lifejacket, bring them along and fish in the lake.
This is a catch and release event for natives! All native fish must be returned to the water. It’s FREE to enter! The event and registration kicks off at 6:30am and you can fish anywhere around lake, as long as you’re back at the OzFish marquee at 10:30am to weigh in and count up your tilapia and win some PRIZES!
Reminder: you will need a NSW fishing license to participate and be sure to wear sun safe clothing and pack your water bottle.
***Registrations have been extended for landbased anglers and those that can supply their own kayak and lifejacket ONLY***
Registration is essential. We hope to see you there!
This event is in partnership with Tweed Shire Council and NSW Fisheries and is supported by BCF – Boating Camping Fishing
