Searching for Eastern Freshwater Cod – Richmond River NSW
June 12 @ 8:30 am - 3:00 pm AEST

Join us for an Eastern Freshwater Cod eDNA citizen science day!
OzFish members, you’re invited to be part of something special.
We’re teaming up with freshwater ecologist and Eastern Freshwater Cod (EFC) expert Jim Tait for a field day dedicated to eDNA Citizen Science, and we want you there. This is your chance to get hands-on with real science and help track the presence of EFC across key tributaries in the Wilsons rivers, where there’ve been past sightings and where stocking efforts are looking to bring back this iconic species to your waterways.
We’ll be visiting select sites, learning how to collect eDNA water samples, and hearing from Jim about the cod’s unique journey in the Richmond catchment. Think of it as science with a story where we’ll be combining modern testing with historical insights and grassroots action to uncover where these elusive fish might still call home.
You don’t need any scientific background, just curiosity, a love for local waterways, and a willingness to get involved. It’s also a great opportunity to connect with fellow chapter members, share knowledge, and support conservation in a way that goes beyond the bank.
