Fish habitat talks: saltmarsh – TAS

March 28, 2023 @ 6:00 pm - 7:30 pm AEDT

Join us for an informative talk on saltmarsh, an often overlooked ecosystem, but in reality one of the most important ecosystems in the world.

Up to 70% of our favourite species to catch use saltmarsh as habitat for at least one stage of their life cycle! These habitats play an essential role in providing nursery habitats for juvenile fish, which you may catch downstream a few years later. Not only does saltmarsh provide fish habitat, it also plays many other important roles.

Globally, many saltmarshes are struggling. One of these, located in the Ramsar-listed Pitt Water Orielton Lagoon area, is currently being restored as a fish habitat restoration project by NRM South in partnership with OzFish and the University of Tasmania.

Come along to find out more about saltmarshes and the restoration project.

Registration is essential. We hope to see you there!

This project is supported by NRM South, through funding from the Australian Government’s Fisheries Habitat Restoration Program.  It is also supported by the partnership between OzFish and BCF – Boating, Camping, Fishing.
