Boambee Creek Planting Day – Sawtell, NSW

July 9 @ 9:30 am - 1:00 pm AEST

Boambee Creek mangroves

Join us on Boambee Creek to plant out more mangroves to help restore this important site with the local Gumbayngirr rangers and Southern Cross University!

We will teach you a special technique to help give the mangroves the best chance of survival so that you can watch your mangroves grow happily over the coming years.

Mangroves are an essential nursery ground for fish, crustaceans and molluscs, providing a safe place for them in their early life stages. Unfortunately, the mangrove population in Boambee Creek was significantly decimated by the 2021 hailstorm event.

Since then, the mangroves have been struggling to recover, and they need our help to thrive once again so there is more habitat for our fish.

This planting will add further benefit to ongoing efforts from local rangers from Ngiyambandigay Wajaarr Aboriginal Corporation and researchers from Southern Cross University who have been monitoring and working to restore this area since 2022.
