Hawkesbury-Nepean Chapter

The Hawkesbury Nepean Chapter of OzFish is a dedicated community of anglers and conservationists focused on preserving and enhancing the aquatic environments of the Hawkesbury and Nepean River systems. Committed to promoting sustainable fishing practices and habitat restoration, the Chapter undertakes various projects to protect and restore these vital waterways. Through educational programs, community engagement, and hands-on conservation activities, they aim to foster a deep sense of environmental stewardship and ensure the health and biodiversity of the rivers for future generations. To get involved, participate in their events, volunteer for restoration efforts, or become a member to support the ongoing preservation of the Hawkesbury Nepean’s aquatic habitats.

Location

The Hawkesbury Nepean is the longest coastal catchment in NSW. The Hawkesbury river flows 470 kilometres (from south of Goulburn near Lake Bathurst to Broken Bay). The main rivers and tributaries include the Hawkesbury-Nepean, Avon, Cataract, Colo, Cordeaux, Coxs, Grose, McDonald, Wollondilly, Warragamba and Wingecarribee rivers. There are also many creeks including Berowra, Bundanoon, Cascade, Cattai, Cowan, Mangrove, Sooley, South and Mooni Mooni creeks.

Country

The traditional owners of the Hawkesbury-Nepean region include the Tharawal, Gundungurra, Dharug, Eora ,Kuring-kai, Awabakal and Darkinung people.

Meeting

Hawkesbury-Nepean have meet-ups on an as-needed basis – strictly members only. Executive positions are open for members who would like to help with a range of activities happening in the area. Meeting details, including dates and venues, are communicated to members via email.
