Lend a hand on Trees for Fish Day

Trees for Fish!

OzFish will be planting Trees for Fish on Emigrant Creek, Saturday 20 October from 10am and we want everyone to lend a hand!

Meet our OzFish volunteers on the corner of Tamarind Drive and Old Bangalow Road and plant a tree (or ten!) that you can watch grow. These trees will provide fish with shade, shelter, clean water and insects to feed on for many years to come.

OzFish Unlimited is a not-for-profit organisation dedicated to helping thousands of Aussie recreational fishers take action to improve the health of their rivers, lakes and estuaries, and sure up the future of the sport that they love.

With the support of our major partner BCF, we’re working towards future-proofing recreational fishing across the country. In order to achieve this feat, we need to take the loss of natural fish habitat and its impact on fish stocks seriously.

Recent studies have shown that the Richmond River is one of the most degraded rivers in the state, and the work we have planned for Emigrant Creek near Ballina and Tintenbar NSW, will begin to repair this damage.

John Larsson, President of the OzFish Richmond River Chapter says, “We are excited at the prospect of making a dramatic improvement to fishing and oyster growing in the Richmond. The Trees for Fish Day will restore lost fish habitat, improve fish stocks as well as contribute to improved water quality in Emigrant Creek and the lower Richmond River. It complements our downstream re-snagging fish habitat placements very nicely.”

Anyone interested in supporting the Richmond River Chapter in their quest for a healthy river is encouraged to become an OzFish Unlimited member or donate

As our OzFish Ambassador Steve ‘Starlo’ Starling says “OzFish is helping change the way Aussie anglers think about fish and the habitats that nurture them. Get on board today and help us create a brighter fishing future!”
