Nominations now open for the 2025 NSW Fish Habitat Panel

NSW Habitat panel presentation

Are you an OzFish member who wants to make a broader impact on fish habitat in NSW? Applications are now open to join the NSW Fish Habitat Panel, a dedicated team of OzFish Chapter leaders committed to protecting and restoring our waterways.

About the panel

Funded by the NSW Recreational Fishing Trust, the NSW Fish Habitat Panel is a group of engaged recreational fishers working together to identify habitat challenges, provide feedback to OzFish staff, and develop strategies that support fish and fisheries across the state.

Panel members serve as regional leaders, ensuring that issues identified by local anglers contribute to habitat restoration efforts.

What you’ll do

Panel members meet up to six times a year through both online and in-person sessions to:

  • Provide feedback to OzFish staff and industry leaders on fish habitat issues.
  • Help co-design OzFish Experience Weekends to enhance community engagement.
  • Support Fish Talks events in the Murray-Darling Basin, fostering discussion and leadership.
  • Assist in key initiatives such as Tangle Bins, tackle repair programs, and litter reduction.
  • Strengthen OzFish Chapter capacity across NSW, empowering local recreational anglers.
  • Share ideas to grow Chapter membership and increase participation in habitat projects.

Why join?

Being part of the NSW Fish Habitat Panel is an opportunity to build leadership skills, collaborate with experts, and contribute to real improvements in fish habitat.

Panel members will receive a 2025 NSW Fish Habitat Panel work shirt, a resource pack, access to OzFish’s Scale Up training platform, and have priority for travel and education opportunities.

Previous NSW Fish Habitat Panel members have played a crucial role in driving better fish habitat outcomes across the state, dedicating over 990 hours to supporting on-ground action in local communities.

Their efforts have strengthened the connection between local anglers, experts, and scientists, fostering a two-way exchange of knowledge that ensures habitat projects align with both environmental and community needs.

Former panellists have found the experience both rewarding and impactful.

Another highlighted the breadth of opportunities available through the panel.

Their contributions have left a lasting impact, and as we welcome new members, we look forward to building on this strong foundation to continue making a difference for fish and fishers across NSW.
