Announcing OzFish’s newest chapter: Botany Bay!

OzFish Unlimited is thrilled to announce the establishment of our newest chapter in Botany Bay, Sydney. This exciting initiative is set to celebrate and protect the incredible coastal habitats and aquatic species within the spectacular Eora Nation.

The formation of the Botany Bay Chapter was driven by eight dedicated local stewards who are passionate about addressing the environmental challenges facing Botany Bay. These challenges include industrial contamination, stormwater pollution, litter, runoff, and construction. The chapter’s mission is to find and implement solutions to counteract these negative impacts.

Despite being newly formed, the Botany Bay Chapter has already hit the ground running with a series of events already in the pipeline. Clean-up events across the region, as well as community engagement and awareness activities, are major focuses for the chapter. Keen volunteers from the local community are encouraged to join these events, including celebrations for Threatened Species Day and World Rivers Day.

The chapter covers all of Botany Bay, with primary activities occurring around the Northern Shoreline, from Sydney Airport to Cape Banks. Situated on the spectacular lands and waters of the Eora Nation, the Botany Bay Chapter acknowledges the Traditional Custodians, the Gadigal/Bidjigal people of the Eora Nation.

“We are incredibly excited to see OzFish expanding with a new chapter in Botany Bay. The dedication and enthusiasm of the local volunteers is truly inspiring, and we look forward to seeing the positive impact they will make on their waterways,” said Taylah Kirk, OzFish Senior Project Officer – Chapter Capacity.

The Botany Bay Chapter will meet periodically to discuss current events and future plans, with all interested invited to join their first meeting in the coming months. If you’re passionate about your local waterways and want to make a difference, join up and become a member of our newest chapter today. We’ll be in touch via email with details of upcoming events and news from the area.
