OzFish to host fishing talks at Lake Macquarie
Recreational anglers from around Lake Macquarie and the Hunter Region are invited to OzFish’s latest fish talk at Lake Macquarie Yacht Club on Wednesday 29th June 2022.
The free event will deliver informative talks from respected speakers, including lead researchers at NSW government and local gun anglers, on key recreational species in the area, particularly the mulloway and dusky flathead.
The Lake Macquarie Thinking Fish Forum will provide local anglers with a chance to better understand the research behind the fish they love to catch, as well as finding out fishing tips for out on the water.
It is the latest event in OzFish’s Thinking Fish series that brings leading experts to share their knowledge and passion with recreational fishing communities across Australia.
Speakers at the Lake Macquarrie event will include:
- Julian Hughes – Senior Fisheries Scientist NSW DPI Fisheries – ‘What we know about Mulloway in NSW’
- Clay Hilbert – NSW DPI Fisheries Management Officer – ‘Tagging dusky flathead in Lake Macquarie and why we do it’.
- Dan Guilfoyle – Local gun angler – ‘How to catch mulloway and flathead in the Lake’.
- Tim Marsden – Australasian Fish Passage Services – ‘What is fish passage and why should we care’.
Jonathon Bleakley, chapter executive for the OzFish Lake Macquarie Chapter, is calling on local anglers who love their fishing to come along.
“Fishing is one of those hobbies that brings people together. Whether it be discussing how to catch them, debating where they live, or just learning more about them, there is always something to learn in this sport,” said Jonathon.
“If you love fishing, this event is the perfect way to spend a Wednesday night. We will be graced with some of the most knowledgable minds in the industry who are going to share their wisdom with us, in our own backyard.”
The free event will be held at the Lake Macquarie Yacht Club on Wednesday 29th of June at 6 pm, and tickets are limited. Complimentary nibbles will be served after the talk, with attendees encouraged to stay and discuss the information with their fellow anglers and purchase a drink from the bar. The first 50 people through the door will receive a free $20 fishing lure courtesy of Berkley.
