OzFish 2019 Wagga Murrumbidgee Lure Casters Comp a Huge Success!

Our OzFish Wagga – 2019 Murrumbidgee Lure Casters Comp kicked off its inaugural year with a bang raising nearly $2000 for the Wagga chapter.

The Easter period is perfect for chasing Murray Cod in the Murrumbidgee river with low flows and dropping temperatures, it’s the best time to get out and target the bigger fish in heavily snagged areas of the river. 33 entrants from the local area and as far away as Dubbo, Albury, Wollongong and Mildura came to test their skills against some of the self-proclaimed local legends such as Grant Higgonson and Ken Perrin.

Many new friendships were forged along the way helped by few beers consumed around a roaring communal campfire. The weekend wasn’t without its laughs,  with Mildura’s poster boy Braedan Lampard securing the infamous Banana award for his various acts on and off the water.

He wasn’t alone however with local OzFish Wagga chapter President Hugh Kanaley and two other anglers who shall remain nameless, falling victim to a three-metre deep hole at the end of a low stretch of river that most boats had to be walked over. Lucky the fire was burning to allow us to thaw out after the surprise dunking!

Congratulations to all prize winners, well deserved from a tough, hard-fought weekend of fishing and tomfoolery. The weekend was all in all a triumph for all involved and everyone is looking forward to catching up next year.
