Emma Kark – Special Projects Manager Tackling Litter NSW

Emma is our first Litter Project Manager, leading efforts to reduce recreational fishing litter across NSW through a recent NSW EPA grant.

With a background in Marine Biology and extensive experience in Waste Management, Emma is excited to collaborate with recreational fishers to not only tackle litter, but also explore opportunities for transitioning to a Circular Economy.

As a new fisher, Emma has discovered a love for spearfishing inspired by her fascination with the underwater world. Her Honours research focused on the role of artificial seagrass units in supporting epifaunal species, creating a deeper appreciation for seagrass as vital fish habitat.

Her greatest pride and joy has been through founding a grassroots initiative called The Bear Minimum in Banff, Canada, which led to the town creating a Single-Use Item Reduction Strategy (and is now SUP bag free!). Emma is passionate about connecting communities with nature through education and action, empowering them to keep the beautiful environments we get to enjoy pristine and litter-free!
