Tilapia Tour – Sunshine Coast

Join our Tilapia Tour for a day of fishing to remove invasive species from our waterways.
Tilapia have invaded waterways throughout the region, damaging aquatic habitat and threatening our native Australian species. Now is your chance to help manage this threat!
This FREE fishing competition aims to educate the community and raise awareness of Tilapia’s destructive effect on our local waterways, and remove as many of these fish as we can to give our native species a chance!
We have a range of fantastic prizes and categories on offer, plus all attendees will get a raffle ticket for a lucky draw prize, and we’ll be having a free sausage sizzle for competitors as well.

What to bring
- Bring your fishing gear.
- Please wear sun-safe clothing and enclosed shoes.
- Make sure to bring drinking water and snacks for the day.
Competition times
- 7:00am at the OzFish marquee.
- 11am at the OzFish marquee.
- 11am to 11:30am
Rules
- This event is FREE to enter!
- You can fish around the lakes (outside of signed exclusion zones) but make sure you’re back at the OzFish marquee at 11am to weigh in and count up your Tilapia.
- Tilapia must be humanely dispatched before being weighed in.
- This competition is strictly catch and release for native species – any native species caught must be released unharmed.
- If you are unsure whether the fish you’ve caught is a pest or native species, ask one of our OzFish staff members to help identify it.
